These are the terms for using the Sober First Aid app and this website. They are written to be read. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them.

Who this is for

Sober First Aid is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. If you are younger, please don’t use the app, and please talk to someone: 988 answers for anyone, at any age, by call or text, and SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-4357, is free and confidential at any hour.

What the app is, and is not

Sober First Aid helps you get through a craving: a minute of breathing, your own words, your own voice, a few grounding tools, and a community of people doing the same thing. The tools come from addiction treatment and cognitive behavioral therapy, where they have been used for decades.

It is not treatment, medical advice, therapy, or emergency care, and it does not replace any of them. We are not a medical provider. If you are in danger, or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, or call 911. These lines are free, answer at any hour, and are never behind a paywall in the app.

Nothing in the app is a promise about how your recovery will go. We do our best to provide tools to get you through the tough cravings. We sincerely hope it becomes part of your toolbelt and you join our community. If you’re struggling, please reach out for help. We have resource numbers in our app which will always be available.

Your account

You sign in with an email address and password, or with a Google account, and you go by a username of your choosing — your own name or not. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility. You can change your username, your sober date, and your why at any time, and you can delete your account whenever you want.

Your words, and other people’s

What you write, record, and post stays yours. You give us permission to store it and show it as the app needs to: your recordings only to you, your posts to other members. We don’t use your content for anything else.

The community is a place people come to on hard nights. So, on the community feed:

• Be the person you’d want to find there. No harassment, no abuse, no hateful or threatening content, no sexual content, no politics, no spam or advertising.
• Don’t post anyone’s private information, or anything you don’t have the right to share.
• Don’t give medical advice, and don’t sell anything.

Anyone can report a post or a reply, and anyone can block another member instantly. Moderators can remove content and close accounts that break these rules. We keep a record of what was removed and why, so decisions can be checked.

Subscriptions

Every part of Sober First Aid is free for your first 14 days. After that, using the app needs a subscription, billed through Google Play at the price shown in the store for your country. It renews automatically until you cancel, which you do in Google Play, not in the app. Cancelling stops the next charge; it doesn’t refund the current period, except where Google Play’s own refund rules apply.

The Get help screen, and every number on it, stays open to everyone: trial or not, subscribed or not.

What we don’t promise

We work hard to keep the app available and your data safe, and we can’t guarantee either. The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the same extent, Sober First Aid LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes

We may change these terms as the app changes. When we do, the “last updated” date at the top of this page changes with them. If a change affects what you pay, what you can do in the app, or your rights under these terms, the app will tell you before the change takes effect. Using the app after that means you accept the new terms. If you don’t accept them, cancel your subscription in Google Play and delete your account.
